🎗️ Special care for Cancer Clients to Get PMU
✅ Medical Clearance
-
A written doctor’s note/clearance is usually required before proceeding.
-
Clearance should confirm that the client is no longer immunocompromised and is fit to undergo a cosmetic tattoo procedure.
⏳ Timing After Treatment
-
Chemotherapy & Radiation:
-
Clients must wait at least 6 months after completing chemotherapy or radiation before PMU.
-
Some professionals recommend 12 months, depending on healing, immune system recovery, and doctor’s advice.
-
-
Surgery or Reconstruction (e.g., mastectomy, breast reconstruction, skin grafts):
-
Wait 6–12 months after surgery, or until scars are fully healed and stable.
-
-
Port Removal or Catheter Sites:
-
Cannot tattoo over these areas; must be fully healed.
-
🩺 Health Considerations
-
Blood counts (platelets and white cells) should be within normal range to support healing.
-
Clients should not be on active chemotherapy, immunotherapy, or high-dose steroids.
-
If taking blood thinners, clearance is needed.
🌸 Skin Condition
-
The skin must be healthy, fully healed, and free of open sores, rashes, or active radiation burns.
-
Avoid tattooing over fragile, thin, or radiated skin unless approved by physician.
💄 Special PMU Applications for Cancer Clients
-
Brows: For those who lost brow hair from chemo or alopecia.
-
Eyeliner: Only if the eye area is fully healed and lashes have recovered (to reduce infection risk).
-
Areola/Nipple Tattooing: Typically done 12+ months post-reconstruction (with surgeon clearance).
-
Lip Blush: Only when lips are healthy and not overly dry, cracked, or fragile.
⚠️ Important Notes for Cancer Survivors
-
Healing may take longer than average due to past treatments.
-
Pigment retention may be weaker; more touch-ups might be needed.
-
Always approach with compassion—PMU is often more than beauty, it’s part of emotional healing and confidence restoration.
